Houston ISD Partnership Stories

Churches have been faithfully serving schools in Houston ISD for many years.

Here are a few of their stories. Will you tell us yours?

Piney Point Elementary, Houston ISD

On any given day, you’ll find members from Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church volunteering at Piney Point Elementary. Judye and her team help teachers by making copies, laminating, creating bulletin boards, and hosting elaborate teacher appreciation events like the one pictured. With all of this time-intensive work taken care of by MDPC volunteers, Piney Point teachers can focus on educating their students. What began as a (HUGE!) one-day renovation has turned into a long-term church-school partnership built on trust and faithful service.

McNamara Elementary, Houston ISD

We love how Westbury Baptist Church is committed to loving kids, families, and faculty at McNamara Elementary however they can. They went in with no agenda or ulterior motives, but instead approached the school in a posture of humble service. For the past 5 years, the church has offered tutoring help, PTO support, their facilities, financial support, and even cookies! Jeff & the Westbury team, thank you so much for your commitment to loving the McNamara community.

River Oaks Elementary, Houston ISD

The Church of St. John the Divine is passionately committed to loving Houston in a tangible way. Church members mentor students at River Oaks Elementary through Kids Hope USA and volunteer in various ways at Yellowstone Academy and Lamar High school. Despite all the outreach the church is already doing, St. John is committed to developing even more in their service initiatives with their local community. Thanks to Robyn, Brett, Tony, and all the volunteers who are putting their faith into action!
