February 2018 E-Newsletter #2

One of my favorite things about our last two workshops was meeting former Houston ISD students who are now teachers, principals, pastors, social workers, and nonprofit leaders right here in Houston. These former students want to see their own churches and other local churches caring for current Houston ISD students. Wow, we love this!

When you mentor a child, when you encourage a teacher, and when you affirm an administrator, you’re not just investing in the children in that one classroom or school. You’re also investing in students, families, and communities for generations to come!

Schools in multiple school districts across Greater Houston are asking us for church partners. The need and the opportunity is greater now than ever before! Would you pray with us that churches would answer the call? Pray specifically for each church that has attended a Loving Houston workshop as they discern next steps and recruit volunteers. Pray with us that children will be cared for and that families will experience the faithful love of Jesus through our local churches!

Volunteer Recruiting Tip…

Start with an “easy” event to familiarize potential volunteers with the school and students. It’s easier to recruit volunteers for a big clean-up event than for a once-a-week mentor commitment. Then once they’ve seen the campus and interacted with a few students, saying yes to a request to mentor will be much less intimidating!
