I had planned to drop by the school district office to talk strategy: How can we inspire more churches to partner with schools in the district? Instead, the social worker asked if I could help her with one of her students. We drove to a nearby hotel. There were plastic bags and cardboard boxes strewn about the cramped room. I picked up a bag and started stuffing in whatever I could find – dirty clothes shoved under the bed, a ripped backpack, a pair of worn out tennis shoes. One by one, we carried the boxes and bags out to my car. Many of our local school children are struggling. They don’t have a consistent place to sleep, they go to bed hungry, they face pressure from gangs and traffickers, and they often don’t have a consistent adult role model who can guide them in the right direction. Having just one person who believes in them can make such a difference as they go through their daily challenges.

Friend, imagine if every school in Greater Houston had a church partner committed to working with them for the well-being of their students. What if the youth group worked with the students to organize food and school supply drives for their community? What if the young adults tutored students on Saturday afternoons? What if the adults mentored children one afternoon a week?
